  1. Bardeen, John 1908- . US physicist who won a
  2. Nobel prize 1956, with Walter Brattain and
  3. William Shockley, for the development of the
  4. transistor in 1948. In 1972 he became the
  5. first double winner of a Nobel prize in the

  7. Schrieffer) for his work on
